Nepal national gets 10 years jail for murdering footpath dweller in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Min Bahadur Saud, a Nepali national who was accused of killing Purushotham Reddy, a footpath dweller at Agzalgunj in the city in June 2021, was found guilty by the Metropolitan Sessions Court at Nampally. The court sentenced Saud to rigorous imprisonment for ten years and also fined him for Rs 5,000.

A person who was an eyewitness to the murder and the CCTV footage which captured the murder, stood as evidence against the accused during the trial, resulting in his conviction.

Purushotham Reddy was homeless and was residing on the footpath near a temple in Esamia Bazar for over a decade. He made living on the alms and also helped devotees in taking care of their belongings when they went into the temple.

Saud had come to the city a few days before the offence in June 2021. On the day of the offence, the duo had an argument over who should first use the hand pump to take a bath. In a fit of rage, Saud picked up a stick and attacked Reddy on his head, killing him on the spot.

Based on the clues from locals, police nabbed Saud. Meanwhile, the CCTV cameras installed in the area captured the murder. During the trial in the court, one person who witnessed the murder, deposed before the court about how Saud attacked Reddy. This was corroborated by the CCTV footage. Relying on this evidence, the court sentenced Saud.
