Hyderabad: A cyber fraudster who cheated over 40 people by taking large sums of money from them after promising them jobs in MNCs has been arrested by Cyberabad Cybercrime Police.

Jogada Vamsi Krishna Manohar, the accused, would deploy his girlfriend Susmitha to convince gullible youth that he could get them jobs “through the backdoor” by paying up people inside large companies. He collected some Rs 1.37 crore from his victims but blew it all on horse races and a luxurious lifestyle, police said.  Susmitha is absconding.

In one such case, Vamsi got Susmitha to call her friend Yamini and tell her that he had gotten her a job in India’s biggest IT outsourcing company TCS by paying Rs 1.5 lakh to someone inside the company. Susmitha lured Yamini by convincing her that Vamsi had good contacts in MNCs and he could get her a job. Yamini, who was desperately in need of a job, fell for it, police said.

Vamsi created a fake Facebook profile in the name of Susmitha Sharma and used it to lure more than 40 victims in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including one person who paid Rs 18 lakh for a job in Google.

Police said Vamsi used bank accounts of Susmitha’s friends to receive money from his victims. He would borrow their bank cards, withdraw the money and return the cards to them, but they did not know about his dealings.

Vamsi cheated people in Hyderabad, Bheemavaram, Nizamabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Khammam, Guntur, Gadwal and Khammam. Police said that eight cases had been reported against him, out of which two are registered in Cyberabad.
