Hyderabad: A 39-year-old woman who persuaded her two sons to rob locked houses was apprehended along with the boys and the owner of a jewellery shop where they used to dispose of the stash.

Sana Begum alias Najamunnisa, her sons Syed Mohammad, 20, a Class X drop out and Syed Sahil, 18, a Class IX drop out, of Chandrayangutta, and Mohd. Nooruddin, 49, owner of Noor Jewellers, were arrested by the West Zone Task Force police.

The family has been committing burglaries since 2015 and was involved in 33 cases, police said, adding that 1.65 kg gold, 80 tola silver, and other property worth Rs 70 lakh was recovered from them.

Syed Mohammed and Syed Sahil are unemployed, said Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar.

“Syed and Sahil used to select houses in high-profile colonies. enter them by opening the grills of windows using screwdrivers, cutting pliers and wire cutters and steal gold, silver ornaments and electronic items after bolting the main door from inside,” Mr Kumar said.

They would hand over the stolen property to their mother and the family used to sell the stolen property to Nooruddin and others.

Sana Begum would spend the money for the family’s lavish expenses. In 2016, she spent Rs 5 lakh to celebrate Syed’s birthday at Golconda. She also performed her sons’ marriages with the money.

“The West Zone Task Force collected information about Sana Begum and was told by local informants that she used to attend marriages and other functions wearing heavy gold ornaments. Her sons were known to spend money lavishly without doing any job. After establishing their involvement in an offence at Banjara Hills the accused persons were taken into custody,” Mr Kumar said.

The accused persons and the seized property was handed over to the Golconda police for taking further necessary action.
