Hyderabad: Man attempts suicide outside Banjara Hills police station
He threatened to kill himself if he did not.
Hyderabad: A man attempted suicide in front of the Banjara Hills police station on Wednesday morning by extracting petrol from his bike’s fuel tank and dousing himself with it before setting himself on fire. According to sources, following domestic disputes between Satish and his wife, his in-laws had lodged a case against him with the Banjara Hills police on Monday.
“We were busy with the Independence Day bandobast. The families spoke among themselves and on Wednesday, Satish arrived here following his father-in-law, Manoj Kumar and set himself on fire,” said the police inspector of Banjara Hill, Mr K. Srinivas.
“We received a complaint from Manoj on Monday, wherein he stated that Satish had married his daughter a couple of months ago and had been harassing her, following which we booked a case here. His daughter moved back to her maternal home and shared her plight with her family in Devarakonda basti,” said the official.
Her brother-in-law and other relatives approached Satish and picked up a fight with him and his family after which they approached the police.
After a case was booked on Monday, the families met and had a meeting, where Satish asked Manoj to take back the complaint and settle the matter. He threatened to kill himself if he did not.
“On Wednesday, Manoj Kumar came to the police station and knowing this, Satish followed him there. After having an argument outside the station, Satish pulled out the petrol cable, let out some fuel, filled it in a bottle and doused himself with it before setting himself on fire,” added the official.
There were two sub-inspectors present outside the police station and they rushed and poured mud over his burning body and put off the flames and immediately shifted him to a nearby private hospital.
“There seems to be an internal issue among the family members and that might have escalated till this point.. Satish received burn injuries on his thighs and back. He is reportedly out of danger and is able to speak. We will take his statement and proceed with the case,” concluded the officer.
