Accused gets 10-year jail in sexual assault case

VIJAYAWADA: A 10-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 fine have been imposed on the accused in a POSCO case from Chirala II Town police station limits. The incident took place in 2022. The Ongole POCSO court judge Somasekhar issued the verdict against Gorremuchu Chandra Babu alias Koteswara Rao.

As per the case, the victim was a minor girl of Ujilipeta, Perala, of  Chirala II town. The accused, who had an extra-marital affair with the mother of the girl, went to school and took her to NTR Nagar. An unknown motorcyclist dropped the two at the temple in NTR Nagar. From there, the accused took her to his house and raped her.

The mother of the victim who went to the school to pick up the girl came to know the accused took her away. She and a relative rushed to his house at NTR Nagar. On seeing them, the accused escaped from the spot.

The police registered the case and investigated it in a speedy manner. Bapatla SP Vakul Jindal said the court monitoring system was proven effective in dealing with such crimes.
