Hyderabad: In a first in Telangana, the I Additional District and Sessions Judge at Bhongir awarded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the two minor children of a woman identified as Rapaka Kavitha, who was brutally murdered by her husband at Bhongir in Yadadri Bhongir district in 2019.

While her husband Rapaka Nagaraju was sentenced to life imprisonment, their two children were the main witness in the case. Both kids who were eyewitnesses to the murder, testified in the court against their father, despite being repeatedly influenced by their father and his family, to withdraw and not testify against him.

Additional Public Prosecutor Vancha Damodhar Reddy said that the two kids who saw their mother being killed, detailed to the court how their father harassed her and eventually killed her. Along with them, their relatives also testified against the accused.

DCP Bhongir M Rajesh Chandra said that as the children had already lost their mother and their father was also sentenced to life imprisonment, the court awarded Rs 5 lakh each to the children for their expenses. He also appreciated the Additional Public Prosecutor and the police personnel who pursued the case in court.

Nagaraju and Kavitha were working as labourers. But Nagaraju suspected her of having an affair with other men. He attempted to kill her multiple times, but could not succeed. On the day of the offence, when Kavitha and their children were asleep, he attacked her with a boulder. Hearing their mother crying, the children woke up and found him hitting Kavitha with the boulder.
