Cops ignored our plaint, says suicide victim Muthyala Sony's kin

Hyderabad: A 19-year-old girl hanged herself to death at Malkajgiri on Friday. Sony’s family alleged that she was harassed by one Suraj and when she approached the police, they refused to act. But the police said she did not approach them. Muthyala Sony, a resident of Moula Ali, was working for a travel agency. Nearly 10 days ago, she approached Malkajgiri police to file a complaint against one Suraj. Suraj, a resident of Boduppal, is the relative of one Sangeetha, whom she had met in Gandhi Hospital in May, while she was admitted there.
She became friends with Sangeetha and exchanged phone numbers. Sangeetha gave Sony’s number to her relative Suraj, who started calling her. Many times she rejected his proposal. “He forcibly took money from me. Sangeetha pressurised me to marry him. She threatened me saying that she will perform black magic against me and my family and if I file any complaint she will use her influence and bring him out,” said the ‘complaint copy’ written by Sony a week ago addressing the Malkajgiri inspector.
Her mother Vijayalaxmi said that they had asked the cops to act on the complaint but they had refused. “They filed a false case against my husband Muthyala Raju and my sons for questioning Suraj,“ she said. Sony’s elder brother Deepak said that they were booked under a false case at the behest of Suraj. “Nacharam SI Sudhakar demanded '5,000 from us. He threatened that he will see to it that we do not get bail in the case,” he said.
Malkajgiri ACP G. Sandeep said the girl did not approach the police with any complaint and their allegation that SI Sudhakar demanded money was baseless. He said her father and brothers attacked Suraj and his friend Rohith in August and were arrested. Malkajgiri inspector P. Janaki Reddy said after Sony committed suicide her family requested not to register a case, but later they said that she was depressed after losing her job and committed suicide, and a case was registered.
