Hyderabad: Factory raided, 179 kg of illicit drug seized
International market value of the seized drug is more than Rs 5 crore.
Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad zonal unit, raided a factory manufacturing illicit drugs and seized 179 kg of Ephedrine at Bolarum on Tuesday. Based on specific intelligence, officers of the DRI conducted a search on at a factory premises at Bolarum industrial area were illicit drugs were manufactured. The factory premises was taken on lease by the person who was found to be involved in similar illegal activities earlier and was released on bail.
The officers recovered a white powdery substance which tested positive for Ephedrine. A total quantity of 179 kg was recovered and seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. According to the officials, the international market value of the substance would be more than Rs 5 crore. Ephedrine is a Schedule-A controlled substance under the provisions of NDPS Act and is a chemical precursor used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, a party drug. Officials have arrested two men who were in possession of the drug. Investigation is in progress.
