44 jailed for drunken driving

Under Cyberabad police commissionerate, all those caught for drunken driving from November 8 to 12, were produced before the court

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad traffic police on Monday filed 31 charge-sheets pertaining to violations in SR Nagar limits against persons driving in a drunken condition.

They were produced before the court in Nampally, which slapped two of them with a fine of Rs 10,500 and a five-day jail term in Chanchalguda prison as they were caught for the first time. The remaining 29 persons were each fined Rs 10,500.

Meanwhile, under Cyberabad police commissionerate, all those caught for drunken driving from November 8 to 12, were produced before the court.

Of the 271 drunk driving cases, 42 persons were jailed from a period ranging from one to seven days and a total fine amount of Rs 10,23,100 was imposed. Around 46 cases of driving without licence were disposed of and a total of Rs 1,38,700 was levied on them. One person caught driving while using a cell phone was slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 and three minors had to shell out Rs 6,500 in fine.

Driving licences of all those driving drunk will be sent to the concerned RTOs for their suspension as per Sec. 19 of the MV Act.
