Madhya Pradesh: Carol singers held for bid to convert'
Local Christian leaders however denied any attempt at religious conversion.
Bhopal: Six Christmas carol singers have been booked under charges of forcible religious conversion in a Madhya Pradesh.
A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of IPC at the district headquarters town of Satna following a complaint by a local that he was lured with money to convert to Christianity, police said on Friday.
Local Christian leaders however denied any attempt at religious conversion. Catholics Bishop Conference of India said a group of interns undergoing training on priesthood were moving around Satna town, visiting Christian institutions and singing carols late on Thursday night as a part of preparations for Christmas celebrations.
They were attacked by a group of people belonging to a right wing organisation who accused them of indulging in religious conversions in the area. “Police reached the spot and rounded up 32 seminarians and carol singers. They were detained in the police station,” a church leader said.
