Coimbatore: Man gets life sentence for stabbing wife in bus
A special court here on Friday sentenced a 22-year-old daily wage laborer to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing his wife in a bus.
COIMBATORE: A special court here on Friday sentenced a 22-year-old daily wage laborer to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing his wife in a bus in 2015. The prosecution case was that the worker, Udaya Kumar of Sirumugai-Shankar Nagar near Mettupalayam, who had married 19-year-old Anandi frequently, quarreled with her, often in a state of inebriation.
Following a heated quarrel, Anandhi left his home for her relative’s house in Kotagiri, but Udaya pursued her there and demanded she return home. When she refused, he even attacked her once, claimed the prosecution. Anandhi was severely injured in that incident and later sent to her mother's place in Sirumugai.
However, On May 15 2015, Anandhi was returning home from hospital along with her mother in a town bus heading for Mettupalayam from Annur, when Udaya Kumar got into the bus, again quarreled with her, stabbed Anandhi with a knife and escaped from the bus. Anandhi was rushed to Mettupalayam government hospital where she died.
Police arrested Udaya Kumar and lodged him in Coimbatore Central jail. On completion of the case, Judge Gunasekaran convicted and sentenced Udaya Kumar to life term, besides imposing a fine of Rs 1,000 on the accused.
