Tamil film producer P L Thenappan booked for drunken driving

His vehicle was intercepted by the police on Cathedral road during the early hours of Friday, police said.

The conviction in drunken driving cases in 2013 was only 31 and the fine collected was Rs 77.17 lakh from 7,774 cases.

Chennai: Tamil Film producer P. L. Thennappan was booked by the city police after he was found driving his car under the influence of alcohol. His vehicle was intercepted by the police on Cathedral road during the early hours of Friday, police said.

The incident happened around 1.30 am. Thenappan who was driving his Honda city vehicle was under the influence of alcohol and also did not possess necessary documents. 

Police sent him home in an autorickshaw after seizing the vehicle. The producer approached the police again early in the morning, claiming his car was missing. 
However, he was asked to produce necessary documents after which the car was handed over to him. 

It may be recalled that another Kollywood personality in actor Jai's driving license was suspended three months ago after he was found to be a repeat offender.
