Vijayawada: Vijayawada police commissioner D. Goutam Sawang on Tuesday suspended Patamata inspector G. Kennedy after he refused to accept a complaint from a financier who was allegedly kidnapped by a group of doctors and thrashed badly following a dispute over Rs 50 crore.

Brahmaji Rao, the financier, approached Mr Sawang after the Patamata police did not accept his complaint and said that Mr Kennedy, instead of registered a case, tried to settle the dispute.

Mr Sawang then suspended Mr Kennedy and surrendered traffic ACP K. Suryachandar Rao to the DGP’s office.

In his complaint, the financier accused high-profile doctors in the city — Puvvada Ramakrishna, Myneni Hemanth, Mandava Ravi and two others – of abducted him following a dispute over financial transactions. The doctors were angry at Brahmaji Rao and his associate Tataji, accusing them of duped them with a promise of low interest rates and then collecting processing fees.

The financier said that the doctors, to recover their money, thrashed him so badly that he had to be admitted in Sentini hospital.

He then approached Patamata police station to lodge a complaint against the doctors, where Mr Kennedy, without registering a case, tried to broker truce between them.

The matter was brought to the notice of Mr Sawang who conducted a secret inquiry.

While Mr Kennedy was sent to vacancy reserve after suspension, a case was booked against the doctors in Patamata police station. Further investigation is on.
