11 ganja suppliers, peddlers held in YSR Kadapa district

ANANTAPUR: Special police teams of YSR Kadapa district arrested 11 cannabis suppliers and peddlers and seized 22.3 kg of the narcotic from them. The contraband, an auto-rickshaw, a two-wheeler, seven mobile phones and ₹48,800 in cash have been seized from them.

Kadapa SP K.K.N. Anburajan told media on Tuesday that on a tip-off, special teams conducted raids at different places within the Two Town police station limits. They seized the contraband and arrested 11 persons as well.

Police have identified the accused as Pathan Afzal Khan, Panyam Ashok Kumar, Poola Rajesh, Poola Saraswathi, Poola Nagaveni, Shaik Syed, Munnangi Vardhan, and Shaik Mahaboob Basha, all belonging to Kadapa city, apart from M. Jaya Kumar and Ramesh of Proddatur town.

Anburajan said so far, more than 50 persons dealing with ganja have been arrested. Seven of them have been booked under the PD Act for being repeat offenders.

The SP said they are identifying addicts and shifting them to rehabilitation centres for treatment
