Vijayawada: Cops have finally cracked the case of the stolen baby who was taken away from an incubator at the Government Hospital on Thursday. The child was traced a house in Avanigadd and a childless couple were arrested for the theft of the child. The two suspects have been identified as Nagamelleswari, and her husband, Raju.
They were caught after neighbours grew suspicious hearing the cries of a child from their home. Cops were promptly informed and Avanigadda police DSP Khader, along with other officials, reached the suspects’ house late on Friday night. They had already received photos of the couple and the child. Based on a positive identification by the infant's parents — Kalyani and Subramanyam — the police proceeded to arrest Nagamelleswari and Raju. The baby has been transferred to Vijayawada and was then handed over to her biological parents.
Meanwhile, police commissioner Gautam Sawang visited the hospital where the theft occurred and said cops were yet to determine if hospital staff were involved or not. He thanked the people who had informed the police and praised the local cops for their prompt action.
