Rajasthan: Woman tied to tree, tonsured after husband elopes with neighbour
People watched the event unfold as mute spectators.
Jaipur: A woman was dragged out of her home, thrashed and her head allegedly tonsured by her neighbours in an Ajmer village on Monday, after her husband eloped with a girl from the village.
The incident took place barely a kilometre away from where Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje unfurled the national flag on the 70th Independence day.
Having been deserted by her husband, Sharada (name changed), who was living in Kotra Pasand Nagar slum, was shocked when a group of women from her neighbourhood barged into her house, dragged her to the village square and beat her up before tying her to a tree and tonsuring her head.
Sharada’s husband Bunty eloped with a neighbour's daughter three months ago. Though the girl was traced and brought back from Jaipur, Bunty managed to escape.
In her FIR, Sharada has named five women -including one Bhuri Devi, her three daughters Reshma, Farida and Shehnaz and another neighbour Jamuna.
People watched the event unfold as mute spectators.
As the news spread, the SHO of the Christianganj Police Station Vijender Gill rushed to the spot and released the victim.
The police have arrested Bhuri Devi and Shehnaz both of whom have now been sent to a women’s home.
However, the neighbours allege that Sharada was involved in multiple relationships and was vitiating the atmosphere in the village.
