Telangana: Man plays loud music in car, convicted
49 people have been jailed for causing noise pollution so far.
Hyderabad: Four persons were booked by the Chilkalguda Police and sent to jail for two days on charges of causing noise pollution. One of them was playing loud music in a car, two others were working at function halls, and the fourth was setting up a sound system for his brother’s wedding at the time of being booked.
This assumes significance with the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities scheduled to begin next week, when there are complaints of noise pollution.
Last week, the Chilkalguda Police booked three persons for making excessive noise.
No other police station in the city has taken such stringent action against people causing noise pollution.
K. Srinivas Rao, the ACP of Gopalpuram, said, “According to the Supreme Court guidelines, no noise which causes disturbance to the public should be permitted. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy has shown zero tolerance towards those causing noise pollution. He has ordered us to take strict action against such parties.”
RTC mechanic Chokki Madhu (28) was sent to jail on Wednesday for playing loud music in his car at a residential area in Ambernagar in Warasiguda, which irked people in the vicinity. Gopu Ganesh (38), an employee at an electrician’s shop, was accused of causing noise pollution at his brother’s wedding. Mohammed Aslam (40), an employee of a private firm in Musheerabad and Shaik Irfan (25), the manager of A.K. Function Hall in Warasiguda were also booked.
“Those found violating the sound pollution norms mentioned in the City Police Act have been booked. They face two days in jail,” said the Sub-Inspector of the Chilkalguda Police.
When asked why only the Chilkalguda Police were booking cases pertaining to noise pollution, ACP Srinivas Rao said, “Chilkalguda is a big area and the rate of offences is very high. Other police stations are also booking cases against violators. So far, 49 people have been sent to jail for causing noise pollution.”
