Hyderabad: Four members of 'attention diversion' gang held

Hyderabad: Four members of an inter-state gang, allegedly involved in looting by diverting attention of their targets, were arrested today and cash and gold worth Rs 20 lakh seized from them, police said.

The gang has 37 such cases registered against them over last three years.

After establishing their identity through CCTV footage, police arrested Petla Suresh, who belongs to Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, K Gopi of Chennai, P Shiva and Gokul Das, both of Chittoor, near a PSU bank at A S Rao Nagar here, Commissioner of Police (Rachakonda Commissionerate) Mahesh Bhagwat said.

"It is with their interrogation (that) 37 attention diversion cases pertaining to Rachakonda Commissionerate and Cyberabad Commissionerate were confessed," Bhagwat said.

As part of their plan and modus operandi they preferred to commit offences by targeting lone persons who are in possession of gold valuables and cash, the senior police officer said, adding that further investigation is on to nab other absconding members.
