The victim, who basically hails from Mangaluru, was in search of a bride and had uploaded his details on a matrimony website.
On June 20, he received a whatsapp message from one Stell Moris, a citizen of England. She expressed her willingness to marry him and asked him to come to England assuring him a good job.
He was asked to contact one Michel Antony. When the man called Michel Antony he asked him to transfer money for Visa application and other works. Thus, the victim transferred Rs 26,560 through a nationalized bank at Kinnigoli village. The victim was in contact with Michel Antony and Jamesh Bheven through email for Anti-Terrorist Certificate application. He spent Rs 83,000 for Anti-Terrorist Certificate application and other related works.
A month ago, he went to Delhi for his ‘Visa’ and found the phone numbers of the persons who had assured him of ‘Visa’ switched off! Finally, he realised that the four-month ‘journey’ was nothing but fraud.
By then he had lost Rs 11,39,535 for ‘VISA and other expenses’, the police said. He has approached the cyber police, who have registered a case and are investigating.
