Rajashekar was lodged in the same barracks as Sainik Singh and Rajesh Yadav who escaped on November 12.
Warangal Urban: Even before the Warangal central prison officials could recover from the shock of two prisoners escaping from the high security prison on Saturday, another prisoner Rajashekar attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills on Wednesday. He was rushed to MGM Hospital and is said to be critical. Jail officials refused to comment on the incident.
Rajashekar was lodged in the same barracks as Sainik Singh and Rajesh Yadav who escaped on November 12. He was allegedly harassed by the police to reveal how the other two prisoners escaped. Rajashekar was undergoing life imprisonment.
Sources said Rajashekar is the brain behind the escape of the two prisoners. On Tuesday, Sainik Singh who was nabbed in Vishakapatnam was brought back to the prison. Fearing his guilt would be revealed Rajashekar consumed sleeping pills. He was taken to the MGM Hospital under heavy security and a team of doctors are trying to revive him. However, doctors at MGM Hospital said the prisoner was brought because of an overdose of medicine.
After the two prisoners escaped from the Warangal central prison which is said to be one of the high security prisons, the security lapses came to light. Jail DIG Keshava Naidu ordered an internal inquiry after the incident. Jail superintendent K. Newton was transferred to Hyderabad and Sampath from Mahbubnagar prison was appointed in his place here. Action against jail wardens and other security personnel is also expected soon.
