Hyderabad: Forest officials seized ten chicks of Alexandrine Parakeet from two persons in Aramghar for illegally purchasing the birds in Shadnagar.

The forest range officer and anti-poaching squad intercepted one Honda Unicorn two-wheeler (TS 13 EB8786) on which two persons were carrying a cardboard carton.

On opening the box, the officials found ten chicks of Alexandrine Parakeet, which is a protected Indian bird listed in the Schedules of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

The two accused Md. Ahsanuddin and Syed Burhanuddin told officials that they were to sell the birds at Rs 25,000 each in the city.

A wildlife offence under Section – 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act was registered against the two.

The seized birds were sent to Nehru Zoological Park for vet care.
