HYDERABAD: Mystery shrouds the Jubilee Hills accident in which a two-month-old boy was killed by a jeep with Bodhan MLA’s Assembly pass pasted on it on Thursday night. While cops are working on the case to identify the men behind the accident, the victim’s mother, along with her dead son, checked out of a private hospital where she was undergoing treatment and left for her native place in Maharashtra.

According to the West Zone Police, the vehicle, an unregistered Thar Jeep, rammed into Kajal Chauhan, aged about 20, who was carrying the infant, Ranveer Chauhan, at around 9 pm on Thursday night. “Kajal, along with Sarika Chauhan, and Sushma Bhosle, all from Maharashtra, were eking out a living by selling balloons on the road. Following the accident, according to eye-witnesses, two men got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. While Kajal, Sarika Chauhan, and Sushma Bhosle were rushed to Apollo Hospital with serious injuries, Ranveer succumbed,” said Chandra Shekar, the sub inspector of Banjara Hills police.

Incidentally, the CC cameras on the accident spot were defunct, giving a blind spot to the scene of offense. “We accessed the footage from the cable bridge and the nearby CC cameras. It confirmed that two men got out of the jeep and left. However, their faces cannot be seen clearly,” Jubilee Hills police officials said.

The Thar Jeep, with illegal dark tinted glasses and modified fog lamps, had a sticker saying ‘Telangana Legislative Assembly car pass - Shakil Aamir Mohammed, 12- Bodhan Constituency’. The vehicle also had a yellow temporary registration sticker without a number written on it. However, an inquiry, along with the MLA sticker pasted on the vehicle, proved that the car belonged to MLA Shakil Aamir Mohammed. This was further confirmed by him via a selfie video which went viral on social media. He claimed that he was in Dubai and had nothing to do with the accident.

“It is my cousin’s jeep and I rarely use it. I was told that his family was traveling in it on Thursday when the accident took place. I learnt that the lady was injured and the baby died in the accident. I spoke to my cousin and I was told that the woman was hit in the accident and threw the baby away in shock. However, I told him to compensate the family and help them with what they need. Meanwhile, as per law, the police are taking action,” he said in the video.

Meanwhile, Kajal Chauhan left the hospital and took her son along with her to her native place in Shrigonda, Maharashtra. “She told us that there was nobody here in the city and that they did not even have a home to conduct final rites and went to her native place. Her brother came and took them away,” the sub inspector added. When asked about the Rs 2 lakh compensation given by the MLA’s relatives, the police said they did not have any idea.

When asked about the role of Mirza Constructions, which has the MLA as a partner and the car is allegedly registered to them, about the connection of the MLA’s cousin who is said to have paid Rs 2 lakh as a ‘compensation’ to the victim’s family, about the vehicle being registered to a private company with an Assembly pass sticker, and whether they contacted the MLA himself about the case, the Jubilee Hills police officials dodged them all saying, “We are verifying the claims.”

Meanwhile, as things stand, top police sources confirmed that they received information that the driver of the car will appear before the Jubilee Hills police on Friday night.
