Hyderabad police arrest two Somalis with Khat leaves
Police said the two were was trying to sell the intoxicating substance in the city.
Hyderabad: Golconda police on Tuesday arrested two Somalian refugees, for illegal possession of Khat leaves. Police said the two were was trying to sell the intoxicating substance in the city.
Twenty five kg of the banned substance were seized. The arrested have been identified as Awais Mahamoud Jamac, 31, and Fadhi Mahamoud Jamac, 33. Another member of the gang, Ahmed, is absconding.
According to Police, Awais and Fadhi are Somalian refugees and have been staying in Hyderabad for the past two years. Awais possessed a refugee card issued by the UN High Commission for Refugees and Fadhi too possessed a card - both issued in the May of 2014.
They were staying with friends at the Brindavan colony in Tolichowki. Sources said they procured the khat from agents and were selling it to customers nearby. Following a tip-off, the cops waited for them to approach clients and then nabbed the two.
Twenty-five kilos of packed khat leaves, a bike and a mobile phone were seized from the duo. Both were produced before court. The police is investigating the case.
