Hyderabad: The CCTV footage in the Amberpet kidnap case showed that when the woman was dragged by two abductors, no passersby or local came forward to help the woman. The entire action took place in the illuminated street at DD Colony, that’s clearly visible in the CCTV footage. It showed the two men dragging the women, holding her arms from both sides.

Three men followed them on three bikes with their headlights on. As the men disappeared out of the frame, a man a relative of the victim was seen running behind the kidnapers, perhaps shouting for help.

The suspects kidnapped the victim in order to pressurise her husband to pay back the  Rs 3 lakh he had taken from them as loan a year back.

The people, passing by on bikes, seemed not bothered about the incident. Even though the victim shouted for help, no local came forward to help her.

“When she was being dragged, there were people on the road. She kept shouting, but nobody came to help her,” said Malakpet ACP Ch. Sudhakar.

Before dragging her, the kidnappers also slapped her and beat her. “She sustained injuries in the attack,” Inspector AP Anand Kumar said. The men dragged her to a Tata Indica car parked in the next line and drove away with her.

Later, based on a complaint by her husband K. Srinivas, police traced the suspects at Tarnaka. “We immediately obtained the CCTV footage and identified the vehicle. They were heading for Nizamabad. We could stop them and rescue the victim before they left the city,” said DCP North Zone B. Sumathi.

Police arrested the suspects, Medipalli Srinivas, a watchman who gave the money to the victim’s husband K. Srinivas, Chilkalpalle Sairam, a car driver, a 22-year-old student pursuing his degree part time, and Vileni Raji Reddy, 27, a marketing employee at a private firm in city.

After the arrests, the moneylenders claimed they came to their house to abduct her husband and since he was in hiding, they dragged his wife into the car and drove away.
