Hyderabad: 3 of attention diversion gang arrested

Officials seized Rs 75,000 and five cell phones from the trio and they were later sent for judicial remand.

Hyderabad: Mahakali Police, with the help of CCTV cameras installed at Secunderabad railway station, nabbed three inter-state offenders for cheating the public in the guise of exchanging UAE currency and handing over newspaper bundles to them on Thursday.

“The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Osman, 24, a resident of Yousufguda and native of Bihar; Mohammed Dilbar alias Ali, 19, a native of Uttar Pradesh, and a 14-year-old minor also from Uttar Pradesh,” the police said.

“The gang targets individual shops and lures victims with false promises by showing bundles of UAE Dirham, wrapped in newspapers. They divert their attention and cheat them by taking Indian rupees,” DCP, North Zone B. Sumathi said.
