Thrissur: 997 gelatin sticks seized in major haul
The arrested, Ratheesh of Koottala House, was carrying as many as 997 gelatin sticks in five sacks in the boot of his car.
Thrissur: Mannuthy Police on Friday arrested a youth from Chalakudy with 125 kg of explosives during a vehicle check on NH at DD Padi near Mannuthy.
The arrested, Ratheesh of Koottala House, was carrying as many as 997 gelatin sticks in five sacks in the boot of his car.
Mannuthy SI Sasidharan Pillai said that following intelligence report on the possibility of smuggling of explosives in large quantities to Kerala, the police had been conducting random checks on NH.
“It is a major haul of explosives in the recent past and a very serious case. The accused who has been slapped with charges under Explosives Act has told us that he was engaged in digging wells and the sticks were used to break rock inside them. But he does not have any licence and the same can be used as bombs with the help of detonators. So, a detailed inquiry is needed into the case,” CI added.
The accused was presented at the residence of Judicial First Class Magistrate-3 in Thrissur on Friday night.
He told cops during interrogation that he brought the explosives from Vadakkenchery in Palakkad from an individual who had brought the sticks in an autorickshaw.
