Hyderabad: A 70-year-old housewife, returning home after withdrawing money from a bank, was relieved of her cash and gold jewellery by two bike-borne suspects.

Police said the snatchers fled with Rs 3 lakh in cash. Syeda Fathima, a resident of Gokul Nagar, under the Neredmet police station limits, had gone to HDFC bank’s Kapra branch along with grandson Talib Ali on his bike. Around 11.45am, they withdrew Rs 3 lakh from the bank and had just returned home when the thieves struck.

“She got down from the bike and while Ali was parking the vehicle, two bikers snatched away the bag with the  cash and gold bangles,” Neredmet Inspector M. Jagdish Chander said.

Ali chased the thieves who were wearing helmets but could not catch them. The two suspects had fled towards Sainadhapuram.

Police suspect the snatchers had noticed the duo withdrawing cash from the bank and had followed them to their home. Cops have recovered CCTV footage from the location and have launched a probe.
