Bengaluru: The High Grounds police have booked a woman for allegedly hitting a traffic policeman with her slippers after she was stopped from entering a zero-traffic zone while Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s convoy was passing.
The incident took place on June 12 when Mr Ansari and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi had come to the city for the launch of National Herald newspaper. Around 2.45 pm, the VVIP convoy was passing near Queen’s Road and the policeman, Venkatesh R.G., attached to K. G. Halli traffic police station was posted at Cunnigham Road Circle. A woman on a scooter came out from the basement of a building and started moving with the convoy. Though the policeman asked her to stop she kept moving.
“He flagged down the vehicle and the woman, aged around 20 years, banged into a barricade and fell on the road. She got angry and shouted at the policeman. She then took her slipper and hit the constable on his cheeks. When he asked for her name, she replied it was Sarika and said that he would dare not do anything to her. The constable filed a case the same day. We are on the lookout for the woman,” a police officer said.
She has been booked under Sec 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), IPC.
