MIM corporators held for attempt to kill BRS MLA
HYDERABAD: The Bodhan police on Saturday arrested two MIM municipal corporators from Nanded in Maharashtra for allegedly attempting to murder BRS MLA Shakil Amer, while booking another 10 persons involved in the incident.
The police said that their probe led them to find the accused in possession of iron rods and other weapons to attack the MLA during his visit for the TS decennial celebrations.
As part of the Pattana Pragathi programme, Shakil visited Darul Uloom in Renjal Base and Rakasipet in Bodhan town on Friday to lay the foundation stone for a school building, when the accused, including corporators Naveed and Althaf Raza, tried to attack MLA.
“The accused conducted a recce in the area for the last few days. On the pretext of questioning MLA over delay in developmental works, the accused tried to kill him,” a cop said.
Bodhan ACP K.M. Kiran Kumar told Deccan Chronicle that an investigation is underway. “We will ascertain reasons behind the attack of MIM councillors on BRS MLA soon,” he said.
Following a complaint from Amer, the police arrested Naveed and Althaf Raza on Saturday, produced them in the Nizamabad court of special second class magistrate and lodged them at the Sarangapur central prison.
Sources said that the incident, however, has left BRS worrying about his safety. Shakil is a two-time MLA from Bodhan, having won in 2014 and 2018.
