Visakhapatnam: 4 Uttar Pradesh youths held in ATM theft case
The cops have launched a manhunt to nab one more accused named Sobhit.
Visakhapatnam: The city police on Thursday cracked the ATM theft case that took place on July 14 in the city.
They arrested four youngsters from Uttar Pradesh who had stolen Rs 90,000. The arrested were identified as Gaurav Singh, 27, Abhishek Singh, 23, Devendra Singh, 26, and Ajmat Khan, 24.
The cops have launched manhunt for one more accused named Sobhit.
ACP of North Lanka Arjun and Inspector of Airport Police Station N. Prabhakar said the offenders managed to get a duplicate key of the ATM and probably had a bank account in which there was some cash. While one would swipe the card and feed the PIN, the other would switch off the machine after hearing the counting sound when the cash was ready for delivery in the upper tray. Then using the key, they would open the upper panel and take the cash. The five-member gang stole cash from the ATM of Kanakamahalakshmi Co-operative Bank Ltd, located at NAD Junction in the city.
Based on a complaint from manager V. Appala Narasimham of the bank, the police registered a case and investigated the case based on the CCTV footage at the ATM. The police cracked the case by arresting four members of the gang and managed to recover Rs 60,000 cash.
The police said the gang confessed to have committed similar offences at the Kancharapalem area in Vizag city and the Bhavanipuram area in Vijayawada.
