Two of Vizag killed in Kavali accident, 8 injured
10 persons from Vijayanthi Gardens in Visakhapatnam had travelled in the car to Tirumala for the tonsure of a child in the family
NELLORE: In a tragic incident, a mother and her son died on the spot and eight others suffered grievous injuries when their car overturned after hitting a road divider on NH 16 at Aliguntapalem Crossroads near Kavali town during the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Bongarala Venu, 50, and her son Uday Kiran. According to Kavali Rural police, 10 persons from Vijayanthi Gardens in Visakhapatnam had travelled in the car to Tirumala for the tonsure of a child in the family.
The accident took place while they had been returning to Visakhapatnam. The injured include Uday Kiran’s wife Dhanalakshmi, their children Pavaki and Rushank, Bongarala Venu’s other son, Manikanta, his wife Soujanya, Venu’s elder son Surya Kiran’s wife Anusha, and their children Tanvi and Vivin.
While returning from Tirumala, Manikanta drove up to Nellore, where they had breakfast. Uday Kiran then took over driving. The speeding car hit the divider and fell 40 metres away.
While Venu and Udaya Kiran succumbed to injuries on the spot, all others were rushed to Government Area Hospital in Kavali. They were later to shifted to Medicover Hospital in Nellore for better treatment.
Kavali Rural sub-inspector Venkat Rao has booked a case and is investigating.
