Kurnool: Two farmers died by suicide in Kurnool and Nandyal districts. In the first incident, which took place in C Belagal mandal, D. Maddileti, a 52-year-old farmer hailing from Polakallu village, died. Maddileti, who owned three acres of agricultural land, had extended his holdings by leasing an additional four acres to cultivate crops like cotton, chilli, onion, and groundnut. However, mounting financial pressures, caused by adverse weather conditions and market-related problems, had pushed him into debts amounting to over Rs 5 lakhs. Local police booked a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

In a similar incident, Dudekula Basha, 45, a farmer from Nelampadu in Chagalamarri mandal of Nandyal district died by suicide. Basha, the owner of two acres of land, had further rented an additional five acres of land for cultivating chilli and onions. However, as the financial burden mounted, he was unable to meet his loan repayment. He took the extreme step on Saturday and was admitted at Nandyal hospital. He died while being treated in the hospital. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
