Rachakonda police arrests notorious gang involved in 30 robberies
The Nagari gang from the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh had robbed atricles worth around Rs 1 crore.
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police has busted a notorious gang involved in around 30 robberies on Monday. The Nagari gang from Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh had decamped with property worth more than Rs 1 crore.
Police arrested four members of the gang and seized stolen goods worth around Rs 20 lakh. Ten others belonging to the gang are absconding, police said.
Rachakonda commissioner of police Mahesh Bhagawat told the media that the gang was famous as the Nagari gang or OG Kuppam gang and operated in groups of eight to 10 members.
They used women from their families to conduct surveys of surroundings of their target and then robbed using attention-diversion tactics. The gang had perfected this modus operandi.
“Their target areas were banks and registration offices where people carry huge amounts in cash,” he said. The gang is active since 2014 and is involved in 37 cases in Rachakonda, seven in Cyberabad and 14 in Hyderabad.
In a recent case in Kushaiguda, the gang followed the victim for about 12 km from the sub-registrar’s office till Bhupeshgupta Nagar in Meerpet police station limits and looted him of Rs 14 lakh.
Using clues retrieved from CCTV footage in surrounding areas police nabbed the gang. The police has launched a hunt to trace the absconding members of the gang.
