SRIKAKULAM:  An Adivasi man shot dead his wife with a country-made rifle following a family dispute in Bharanikota village under Meliyaputti mandal of Srikakulam district on Saturday evening. The incident came to light on Sunday morning.

Meliyaputti sub-inspector V. Sandeep Kumar said Savara Jogarao, 40, of Bharanikota and his wife Padma, 35, used to often quarrel with each other. On Saturday evening, Joga Rao got drunk, picked up a quarrel with his wife and shot her with a country-made rifle which is often used for hunting animals in the agency area. Joga Rao then absconded from the spot.

Based on information, Meliyaputti police rushed to the spot. "We have registered a case and investigating. Padma’s body has been to Pathapatnam hospital for post-mortem. We are searching for the accused," SI Sandeep said.
