Chennai: 23-year-old Man held for abetting lover's suicide
Shastri Nagar police had registered a case under section 174 CrPC (suspicious death) and were investigating.
Chennai: Police on Sunday arrested a 23-year-old man on a charge of abetment to suicide in connection with the death of a 21-year-old college student who committed suicide at her residence two months ago. K. Pramila, a second-year college student and a resident of Ellaiyamman Koil Street in Vannanthurai, Adyar was found hanging in her house on October 10. Shastri Nagar police had registered a case under section 174 CrPC (suspicious death) and were investigating.
While preliminary investigations suggested that the woman committed suicide after her father chided her for using a mobile phone for several hours, sustained investigations revealed that she committed suicide after she was wronged by a man who promised to marry her and then abandoned her.
The woman was in a relationship with D. Prashanth (23), who was working as a technician at an automobile centre in T Nagar. The duo got acquainted through a mutual friend and had become friends on Facebook and was said to be in a relationship for over eight months, police said. However, Prashanth cut off ties with Pramila all of a sudden and began a friendship with another woman. When questioned about his promise of marrying her, he had chided her. Depressed over this, the woman took the extreme step. Prashanth was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide. He was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
