Bengaluru: Attention diversion gang from AP held

The gang diverted the attention of the victims by saying there was a petrol leak and deflate the tyres before looting them.

The police seized Rs 5 lakh cash, three two-wheelers, a screwdriver and nails that were used to deflate the tyres of victims' vehicles.

Bengaluru: The South division police arrested five members of Oji Kuppam gang and solved 19 cases of attention diversion in the city.

The accused have been identified as Praveen, 27, Ramesh, 34, Raju alias Jeevan, 21, Karthik alias Kanthi, 29, and Ankaiah, 19. The police seized Rs 5 lakh cash, three two-wheelers, a screwdriver and nails that were used to deflate the tyres of victims’ vehicles.

The gang diverted the attention of the victims by saying there was a petrol leak and deflate the tyres before looting them. The gang came to the city once a month and stayed in lodges on the outskirts. They visited banks, kept a watch on those withdrawing large amounts of money and alerted their gang members outside the banks. The gang then followed the victims and loot them by diverting their attention either by spraying some itchy powder or by deflating their vehicle tyres.
