Hyderabad: A newly wed woman staying with her in-laws after her husband went to the Gulf for work ended life by hanging at the family home in Chandanagar. She was depressed over his non-response to her text messages, police was told by the family.

Kheneja Fatima, 24, was married to Syed Hameed, 32, in July last. “Hameed, who worked as a research analyst, left for Saudi Arabia two months after the marriage but was allegedly not communicating with his wife. “She shared her sorrow with her mother-in-law Mehrunissa and others.

They advised her to be calm and that he was suffering from some health problems. She continued to send text messages to her husband over the phone but failed to get any reply. She slipped into depression,” said the police.

On Friday afternoon, she hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room with the help of a cloth. Based on a complaint, the Chandanagar Police booked a case under section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC and shifted the body for postmortem.
