5 killed, 2 injured as truck runs over auto-rickshaw in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, at least five people were on Sunday killed and two others critically injured after a truck hit an auto-rickshaw in Odisha’s Sundergarh district. The incident was reported from Telendihi village Sundergarh Sadar Police limits. As per reports, the victims and the injured, all occupants of the auto-rickshaw, were returning home after attending a picnic party.
The deceased were identified as Munsun Khatun (48), her grand-daughter Inayat (4),; Israt Khatun (42) and her daughter Muscan (19) and auto-driver Mohammed Sajjad.
Following the accident, tension prevailed at the site even as the injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital. The local people blockaded the road and demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased.
The conditions of the injured undergoing treatment were stated to be critical.
However, it was not immediately clear under what circumstances the accident took place. The police has launched an investigation into the matter.
