Police Searching Pubs to Check Drug Abuse Gets a Big Thumbs Up

Hyderabad: Sunday night searches in pubs coming under the west zone jurisdiction of Hyderabad police seem not to have caused much inconvenience to customers and managements, many of whom actually welcomed the initiative.

Ferry Thomson, a drummer-cum-graphic designer, said that he noticed them while he was performing. They came, searched the place and left quietly without making any issue.

“It is a very good move and ensures that hangouts are not misused,” he said.

An event organiser wondered why such searches should cause any inconvenience to pub-goers or any one for that matter, if they are not involved in any illegal activity.

“I am happy that our cops are proactive and also serious on the issue of drugs. I just hope that they take up such drives more frequently,” he added.

An organiser said that they did not have any objection to this initiative. “We have also taken certain steps to prevent drug abuse in our premises and we are ready to cooperate with the police,” he added.

Meanwhile, police personnel involved in Sunday’s search operations said that they did not carry any equipment to test drugs as their canines deployed for the searches are trained to detect narcotic drugs even in small quantities.
