Hyderabad: Following the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the Hyderabad city police started intense checks against drug abuse in pubs in the city. For the first time, the police used their dog squad, specially trained to sniff out drugs, at 30 pubs on Sunday.

Earlier, Hyderabad police commissioner K. Srinivasa Reddy had held a meeting with the city police and instructed them to take the issue of drugs seriously.

Customers and staff were thoroughly checked, while the canine — K9 — squads went around every corner in the premises including the kitchen.

“As per the directions of the Chief Minister and instructions from the CP, a search operation was launched in the pubs,” said DCP West Zone Joel Davis. “No violations have been reported. This operation will continue from now on.”
