BENGALURU: The police probing the murder case of Trisha, a two-and-a-half years old child who was found dead under mysterious circumstances, are suspecting that it could be an accidental death. The police have also zeroed in on the girl’s mother, whose act of negligence could have resulted in the death of the toddler.

Police source said that though the post-mortem report was awaited, the doctors who conducted the autopsy, have reportedly opined that the death could have occurred accidentally. “There was just a mark on the girl’s neck and the doctors could not confirm it as strangulation. Now they are waiting for other reports to know the exact reason for the death. Until then we cannot not jump into any conclusion,” an official said.

The police are probing various angles and are hopeful that they would crack the mystery in a few days. It is learnt that Trisha’s mother Seema was also interrogated by the police in connection with the incident. “She was grilled for more than four hours on Monday. First, we have to confirm whether it is a clear case of murder or an accidental death. So, the mother was questioned as there is also a suspicion that the girl might have died because of some negligent act by the mother. We are trying to confirm whether she tried to hide what actually happened, fearing she would be held responsible for the girl’s death,” the official said.

When contacted, DCP (North) T. R. Suresh said that the probe was underway but did not deny that the police were also probing the possibility of the mother’s role behind the girl’s death. “We are yet to come to any conclusion as the exact reason for the death in not known. We are investigating the case in all angles.”

It may be recalled that Trisha, who was playing in the corridor in front of her house, went missing and was later found dead in bushes near her house in Gopalappa Layout in Hebbal on February 11 night.
