Kidnappers kill Guntur boy
Police found his dead body in a pond in the village on Monday.
GUNTUR: Kidnappers killed a boy named Nannam Yaditya Raju, 12, at Talluru village in Phirangipuram mandal in Guntur district. Police found his dead body in a pond in the village on Monday. The boy was reportedly kidnapped on the 14th of April from Brodipet in Guntur city, while he was playing with his friends. No one realised it till the kidnappers called his mother over the phone, said Mr. M. Haimarao, Circle Inspector at Nagarampalem police station in Guntur city.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh from the victim’s mother Jayakumari. She gave Rs 2 lakh but the kidnappers killed the boy, the police said. The reason for that is known. The mother lodged a complaint with the Nagarampalem police on April 15, a day after the kidnap, police informed. According to them, the victim’s family dropped the money at Tummalacheruvu on the 16th, after travelling in Macherla passenger train.
The family members did everything according to the instructions of the kidnappers. But, the kidnappers did not honour their promise and killed the boy. Although this happened after they lodged the complaint with the police, the victim’s family did not inform the police. The police said that Ms. Jayakumari’s husband died four years ago. She has been running a tailoring shop to help her family survive.
Raju, who was killed by kidnappers, was the eldest child, studying in sixth standard. The family stays in the Nagarampalem police station limits. Police officials said that similar crimes have happened in the district in the recent past. Kidnappers took away boys and demanded ransom at Macherla, Piduguralla police station limits in Guntur district, said Mr M. Hyma Rao, Circle Inspector of police, Nagarampalem in Guntur city.
He said that the same modus operandi was noticed in the Karimnagar district of Telangana state. The police traced the calls of the kidnappers from land lines. The kidnappers demanded the money through call made froma a land line public STD booth.
The officer said that, they have been monitoring their calls and processing the information. He added that, apart from the available evidence, they have been investigating all the different angles in the case.
