Auto driver gets 20-yr RI for abducting, raping Class IX student

Hyderabad: An auto driver, Chan Karan Singh, was on Wednesday sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and penalised Rs 2,500 for abducting and raping a teenager, a Class IX student, at Langar Hauz in December 2021.

Issuing the judgment, XII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge T. Anitha also awarded a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim and directed the legal services authority to pay the amount at the earliest.

In the incident, the victim boarded the convict’s auto to attend a tailoring class, but the driver took her to an abandoned clothing store building and raped her. Later, he dropped the girl near the PVNR Expressway and fled.

After the girl informed her parents, the police registered a case based on her mother’s complaint and arrested the accused. The trial started on July 4, 2022.

ACP (Asifnagar Division) R.G. Shiv Maruthi said: “The victim’s statement, evidence of her mother, witnesses along with the medical evidence proved the guilt of the accused in the court.”

A total of 18 witnesses were examined by the court during the trial conducted by Public Prosecutor Durgaji. Langar Hauz police officers B. Venkataiah, Syed Aziz Mohammed and B. Aravind played a key role during the trial.
