Chennai: The German rape victim has more or less identified the two men who sexually assaulted her on April 2 in a casuarinas grove in Parttikulam off ECR near Mahabalipuran. She was mailed more than 500 snapshots of men from which to try and zero in on the actual culprits. Following the leads provided, the Kancheepuram police have detained four people and are questioning them. The physiotherapist, who was part of tourist group, was in touch with the police online even after she had left Tamil Nadu.
Police had sent over 500 pictures of men including fishermen, guests of nearby resorts and those who were present in the neighborhood when the crime took place at around 10 am on that Sunday. Police had first collected photographs of men aged between 20 and 35 from the fishing hamlets in Pattikulam, Devaneri, Thiruvudanthai, Choolerikadu, Pulikoodai and Vadanenmeli. They later scanned all the CCTV footage available in the neighbourhood and took images of all men captured from 8 am to 10 am. All the images were sent to the victim, who had said two men from the pictures sent looked like her tormentors. "It is too early to say the two are the accused. We are still probing and questioning them," police sources said. The victim was taking a nap in the casurina grove near the beach in Pattikulam after a long walk when two men allegedly raped her at around 10 am. The victim, a part of a group of five tourists, had first informed her embassy in New Delhi. TN Police came to know about the incident after employees of the German mission informed them.
