Bhimavaram: 2 held for stealing gold from elderly

Bhimavaram: Palakollu Rural police arrested Kudipudi Yogendra Babu and K. Durga Prasad of Vankatallacheruvu village in Achanta mandal of West Godavari on charges of stealing gold ornaments from elderly women.
The two brothers are involved in 36 such incidents in both East and West Godavari districts. Police recovered Rs 21.51 lakh worth of 90 sovereigns of gold ornaments from the accused.
Narasapuram DSP Nageswara Rao told reporters here on Tuesday that the accused chose houses of elderly people and introduced themselves as agents of government schemes and asked about benefits of various government schemes. They promise the old women to sanction loans, health cards, pensions and other benefits and prepare the women for taking photographs to update online. While taking photographs, the accused suggested the women to remove their gold ornaments to show that they were poor.
