Eve teasers in Hyderabad becoming crude
Some youths resorting to violence against women who protest.
Hyderabad: A woman was slapped and spat on by youngsters travelling on a bike, recently in the city. In one case reported to the Cyberabad police, three youths on a bike slapped a woman’s back and drove off at Shamshabad. When the 35 year old-woman shouted at them, they drove back and spat on her. During questioning by police after their arrest, the trio said that they wanted to show their ‘smartness.’
In another case, a married physiotherapist, who was visiting a house regularly to treat a patient, started harassing his patient’s granddaughter. He kept on asking the girl to have a relationship with him till the police arrested him.
The first case occurred last week near Annapurna bus station in Shamshabad when the victim was walking by. Three youths, all BTech students, came on a bike, followed the victim and slapped her on her back.
“The angry victim shouted at them in protest. Soon the trio drove back and stopped near her. One of them was chewing paan, and he spat on her dress,” said Cyberabad West Zone She Team ACP, M. Snehitha.
Locals, who saw the incident, chased the trio and caught them. Later, they were handed over to the police. The three were identified as Ramesh, Dinesh and Manoj.
Though the police was going to book a strong case against the trio, under the Criminal Amendment Act-2013 for sexual harassment, the victim requested the cops to scale down down the charges as the culprits were students. “She did not want to ruin their career. So we booked a petty case against and called their parents,” said the ACP.
In the second case, 33 year-old Manthena Ramesh, a physiotherapist, who was visiting a senior citizen at his house at Kukatpally, started following his granddaughter.
“The victim, a degree final year student, was constantly harassed by the paramedic. Later, her mother came to know about it and approached us. We then detained him and called his wife for a counselling session,” said ACP Snehitha.
