HYDERABAD: The Hayathnagar court on Monday granted a five-day police custody of K. Nageshwara Rao, who was arrested on July 11 by the Vanasthalipuram police on rape and murder threat charges.

Nageshwar Rao, former inspector at Marredpally police station, was suspended by city police commissioner C.V. Anand and was sent to judicial custody till July 22, the police said.

A team of Vanasthalipuram police escorted the accused inspector from the Charlapally prison and took him to Vanasthalipuram police for questioning.
Nageshwara Rao, on July 7, raped a married woman at her house in Sri Venkateswara Colony in Hastinapuram while her husband was away, according to the police.

After the victim’s husband returned home, the accused inspector threatened to kill both the wife and the husband with his service revolver. He also allegedly blackmailed the victim and her husband stating that he would register a brothel case against the victim and a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) case against her husband.

The victim and her husband were later forcibly taken by the inspector in a police vehicle that met with an accident on Ibrahimpatnam Cheruvu road. However, the couple managed to escape and lodged a complaint with the Vanasthalipuram police. On July 11, he surrendered before the Peddamberpet police and was arrested by Vanasthalipuram police.
