Hyderabad man gets lifer for killing his mother for money

HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old man accused of killing his mother in 2022 after she refused to give him money for buying alcohol was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs10,000.

Becanada Santu alias Banjal Santosh had stabbed his mother Sangeetha, ripped her stomach off and pulled out the intestines, killing her on the spot. First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge at Nampally D. Rama Kanth after examining witnesses and evidence produced by the prosecution, delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

Additional public prosecutor S. Mukunda Reddy said the court began the trial in September 2022 and completed it expeditiously in 11 months’ time.

During the trial, the court examined 15 witnesses including Santosh’s sister, their other family members and also neighbours, who deposed before the court how Santosh had been harassing his mother for a very long time. They also told the court how on the day of the incident, Santosh locked her inside their house.

Following the incident, SHO SR Nagar K. Saidulu registered a case, arrested Santosh and also filed a charge sheet in the court with evidence from the eyewitnesses, technical and also scientific evidence. Mukunda Reddy said the court took note of the eyewitnesses and found Santosh guilty of the offence and awarded him life imprisonment.
