CBIT HoD Asha Latha held by Cyberabad police for cheating

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Friday arrested Asha Latha, the head of department of computer science at Chaitanya Bharati Institute of Technology, Gandipet, for allegedly cheating a student.
Police said she had promised the student to change his branch of study from biotechnology and collected Rs 3.94 lakh from him.
Police said the student, Mohammed Sultan Rahil, had joined the biotechnology stream last year and told Asha Latha that he wanted to shift to computer science. She promised to get him shifted if he paid her Rs 4 lakh.
He paid a total Rs 3.94 lakh on different occasions, but when he had not been shifted for a year he realised that he had been cheated and asked for his money to be returned. Asha Latha stopped coming to college, he alleged.
He went to the police who registered a cheating case. After confirming that she had received the amount by checking her bank statements, police arrested her and produced her before a court.
