A final year engineering student of private college died when he along with his bike came under the bus, transporting students of same college.

Chennai: A final year engineering student of private college died when he along with his bike came under the bus, transporting students of same college, on Perungalatur —Kolapakkam road on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as A Arumugham, a native of Thoothukudi. The student, doing his final year M.Tech, was on his way to college on his bike on Friday morning from his place of stay in Perungalatur when the college bus overtook him. He was exchanging greetings with students in the bus, when he bike lost control after hitting a pothole, which was formed due to heavy rains that lashed the southern suburbs on Thursday night.

After hitting the pothole, Arumugham fell on to his right and the rear wheel of the bus ran over him. Though his shocked college mates immediately rushed him to a private hospital in Tambaram, the student died on the way. "We have arrested Thavamani, 65, driver of the bus in connection with the mishap. The body of the student will be handed over to his family after post mortem," police said.
